THe Safari on foot experience

Walk in the wild.

Every step brings the wild closer.

  • On Foot: Travel at the natural pace of the bush, guided by experts who read the land.

  • Up Close: Notice the tracks in the dust, the scent of crushed grass, the flick of a lizard’s tail.

  • Wild Encounters: Meeting elephants, giraffes, or zebra at eye level changes everything.

  • Expert Guidance: Walk with armed rangers whose knowledge keeps you safe and curious.

  • Deep Connection: The rhythm of each step roots you in Africa in a way no vehicle can.

Walking safaris are not just about covering ground, they are about entering Africa on its own terms. On foot, you feel small and alive at the same time. The bush is no longer scenery, it is part of you, and every sound and movement has meaning.

How many walks?

We recommend adding one or two guided walks into your safari itinerary. A morning walk of three to four hours is ideal, when the air is cool and the animals most active. For those who want to go further, some parks offer multi-day walking safaris that follow ancient trails and set up camp each night.

When to go:

The dry season is best, when the grass is lower, the bush more open, and wildlife easier to spot. Early mornings are particularly rewarding, with cool air, fresh tracks, and birdsong carrying through the stillness.

Our recommended pairings:

Walking safaris pair beautifully with flycamping, spend the day on foot and the night under canvas and sky. They also combine well with traditional game drives, giving you a balance between the intimacy of ground level and the wider perspective of a vehicle.
