sundowners on the mighty Zambezi

The Zambezi slows, and for a moment, so does everything else.

When the river slows, so do you.

  • Golden Hour: Drift along the Zambezi as the sun begins its descent.

  • Wildlife Encounters: Watch elephants, hippos, and crocodiles gathering at the water’s edge.

  • Unmatched Scenery: The vast river, distant thunder of Victoria Falls, skies painted in colour.

  • Expert Skippers: Local guides who know the channels and hidden viewpoints.

  • Signature Moment: Raise your glass as the horizon glows, the classic safari sundowner.

A Zambezi sundowner cruise is more than a drink at sunset, it is a pause in time. The light softens, the river shines like bronze, and Africa slows down around you. The clink of ice, the call of a fish eagle, the laughter of your companions,  this is the rhythm of the river.

How many nights?

One evening is enough to create a lasting memory, though many travellers choose two, once above Victoria Falls in Zambia and again below in Zimbabwe. Each stretch of the river has its own magic.

When to go:

Sundowners are possible year-round, but the dry season from June to October offers the clearest skies and best wildlife along the banks. At this time, animals gather in numbers, and the light is at its most dramatic.

Our recommended pairings:

A Zambezi sundowner pairs beautifully with a day exploring Victoria Falls, or as a prelude to a longer safari in Hwange or Chobe. It also complements more adventurous experiences like white-water rafting or canoeing, giving balance with an evening of calm.
